Charlie’s Crusade is a classic 'Unsung Hero' story that highlights the often overlooked role of the janitor in the school. The film is reminiscent of Buster Keaton's comedic brilliance, with a this narrative that unfolds through the lens of the 1920s silent film era, celebrating the quiet achievers of our communities. With classic chase scenes and melodramatic characters, we follow the journey of our hero Charlie who tries to save the school from the evil villain, Principal Scott.

About the film
This year, our Support Unit students of Callaghan College
Jesmond Senior Campus embarked on a remarkable journey into the origins of
cinema, immersing themselves in the illustrious golden era of silent film.
Drawing inspiration from cinematic icons such as Buster Keaton and Charlie
Chaplin, our young filmmakers dedicated themselves to the creation of the
quintessential underdog narrative.
Through rigorous research and the incorporation of
traditional melodramatic characters and plot devices, combined with the film
techniques characteristic of the silent film era, our students cultivated a
profound appreciation for contemporary blockbusters by tracing their cinematic
lineage.
Our film introduces Charlie, the dauntless hero, on a
mission to rescue the school from the malevolent designs of the ultimate
antagonist—school principal Miss Scott. With his loyal sidekick and a cadre of
legendary students by his side, Charlie embarks on a comedic and adventurous
odyssey to defeat evil and champion the cause of good. Huzzah!
We invite you to join us in celebrating the ingenuity and dedication of our students with disabilities in this tribute to
the silent film era. Witness their newfound understanding and passion for the
art of filmmaking as they pay homage to the pioneers who paved the way for
modern cinema.
